Protesters burn Prothom Alo in Nikli of Kishoreganj

BNP leaders and activists in Nikli of Kishoreganj burn several copies of ‘Prothom Alo’ for publishing ‘false news’ on 5 March against the BNP leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Iqbal.
The protest march started from Nikli Notun Bazar and moved through key roads before concluding at the Notun Bazar bus stand on Saturday.
During the gathering, speakers called for a boycott of ‘Prothom Alo’, accusing it of acting as an agent of fascist forces.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Iqbal is a central executive committee member of BNP and senior vice-president of the Kishoreganj district BNP.
Advocate Manik Mia, the newly elected senior vice-president of the Kishoreganj District Lawyers' Association and an APP (Assistant Public Prosecutor), stated that ‘Prothom Alo’ deliberately published misleading information against Iqbal. He alleged that the newspaper acted on behalf of opposition forces to prevent Iqbal from securing BNP's nomination in the upcoming national elections. He warned that if ‘Prothom Alo’ did not retract the news within three days, the people of Nikli would boycott the newspaper.
Several BNP leaders spoke at the protest, including Nikli Upazila Jubo Dal senior joint convener Azharul Islam Sohel, BNP members Kamrul Hasan and Shamim Al Mamun, Nikli Sadar Union’s senior joint general secretary Farid Mia, former president of Nikli Upazila Chhatra Dal Khairul Ahmed, acting convener Hridoy Hasan, member secretary Roni Ahmed, and Nikli Upazila Tanti Dal convener Swadhin Ahmed.
Earlier, BNP also held a protest march in Bajitpur demanding the closure of ‘Prothom Alo’, accusing it of publishing false news.
