The interim government has decided to appoint a total of 5,493 doctors through the Public Service Commission (PSC) to improve healthcare services across the country, including the capital.

Environment, Forests and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan shared the information during a briefing at the Foreign Service Academy following a meeting of the advisory council of the interim government on Tuesday.

“The recruitment process for 3,493 doctors through the PSC is currently underway. Additionally, we have decided to hire 2,000 more doctors to address healthcare needs in rural areas,” she said.

Rizwana stated that the government has taken this decision to ensure proper healthcare for people at the grassroots level, as rural communities remain underserved in terms of medical care.

“The main objective of today’s decision is to ensure that healthcare services and doctors are more accessible to people in rural areas,” she said.

The adviser also mentioned that Saudi company Aramco has agreed to supply LNG to Bangladesh at a price lower than its usual market rate.

She added that upon reviewing the progress of the interim government’s decisions, it was found that out of 135 decisions made, 92 (approximately 68%) have already been implemented.

Rizwana Hasan further stated that the meeting decided to rename two institutions—the Bangabandhu Science and Technology Fellowship Trust Act (Amendment) Ordinance and the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novotheatre Act (Amendment) Ordinance.

During the meeting, the advisory council also agreed to establish global standards for regulating the saturated fat content in food products.
