BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman has requested the people of the country to consider celebrating Ramadan and Eid in unison with the rest of the world.
“I am requesting all concerned, including the Alem Ulemas, whether we can consider celebrating Ramadan and Eid at the same time as the entire world,” he said.
The BNP acting chairman came up with the call while speaking virtually from London at an iftar party hosted by the BNP in honour of orphans and Alem ulemas at Ladies Club in the capital on Sunday.
Speaking at the programme, BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas said some people from inside and outside the country are trying to create division with the BNP and the Ulama-Mashaykhs.
“This division will create a rift and destroy the country. Foreign evil forces will take advantage of it,” he added.
The BNP leader raised questions about the newly launched political party’s motive for establishing a second republic in the country.
“I don’t understand what a second republic is. They are trying to create division among the nation by making a pretext. Some people who look like you (like the Ulama) are trying to add fuel to the fire,” he added.
BNP every year hosts an iftar party for orphan students and alem-ulema (Islamic scholars) on the first day of Ramadan.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia used to take iftar with orphans and alem-ulema on the first day of Ramadan every year.
Khaleda Zia is now staying in London with her family members there. Prior to the party, a Munajat was offered seeking Khaleda’s early recovery.
Among others BNP standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Jamiruddin Sircar, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Salahuddin Ahmed and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury were also present in the programme.
