Despite failing to secure a victory in the Champions Trophy, Bangladesh still walked away with a handsome financial reward from the tournament.
Finishing sixth, Bangladesh earned $475,000 (approximately Tk. 5.76 crores) in prize money.
Each participating team was guaranteed $125,000, but Bangladesh added an additional $350,000 to their earnings after England lost all three of their matches, finishing at the bottom of the table.
England’s seven-wicket defeat to South Africa yesterday confirmed Bangladesh’s sixth-place finish. It’s a stark contrast to their 2017 Champions Trophy campaign, where they reached the semifinals in England.
Bangladesh endured a tough run, suffering defeats against India and New Zealand, while their match against Pakistan was washed out without a ball being bowled. Both teams earned a solitary point from the abandoned game, but Bangladesh edged hosts Pakistan for sixth place based on net run rate.
Although winless, Bangladesh still managed to make the most of their campaign—both financially and in rankings.
