The authorities of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) have cancelled life-time studentship of four leaders of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
The authorities also took disciplinary action against 44 other students.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the university's Student Disciplinary Committee with Vice-Chancellor Prof SM Abdur Razzaque in the chair on Wednesday.
Among those expelled for life are Fahmid Latif Lion, president of BCL RUET Unit and a student of 2014-15 session in the Civil Engineering department; Soumik Saha, unit general secretary and a student of 2016-17 session in the CSE department; Shashwata Saha Sagar, a student of the 2019-20 session in the Mechanical Engineering department; and Mrinmoy Kanti Biswas, a student of the 2019-20 session in the Civil Engineering department.
Professor Md Rabiul Islam Sarkar, director of Student Welfare Office and member secretary of the Student Disciplinary Committee, said earlier the RUET administration formed an investigation committee based on allegations raised by students involved in the July uprising.
“The investigation revealed that the accused students had violated the university's disciplinary ordinance, leading to their permanent expulsion and cancellation of their studentship,” he added.
