BNP Joint Secretary General Imran Saleh Prince blasted Jamaat for its demand for local body polls before the national election and said it is nothing but conspiratorial and ridiculous.
“Jamaat is demanding local body election first on the pretext of public suffering but it is blatant conspiratorial and ridiculous. It is nothing but a plan of destabilising the country,” he said while addressing a programme held in Maryland State in the USA on Sunday evening (local time), said a press release here on Monday.
Claiming that it is not the local government but only an elected government that can tackle the public suffering, he said the ousted fascist and domination forces can create anarchy in the country if the national election is prolonged.
He said Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is trying to catch fish in the troubled water creating a smoke screen over holding the local body election first.
The public suffering will go beyond the controlling capacity of the government, clashes and politics of confrontation will increase while the ugly heads of the ousted Awami-fascist will again emerge in the country if the local body election is held first under the prevailing circumstances, he said.
As a result, the national crisis will take an acute turn that will hinder the national election, added the BNP leader.
Jamaat is engaged in destroying the country’s unity in the name of restoring democracy and human rights and at the same time, the party spreading misleading publications against BNP, he said.
Referring to the country’s deteriorated law and order situation, price hike of daily essentials, and stagnation in trade and commerce, Imran said only an elected government can deal with the issues competently upholding the national interest.
Recognizing the contributions of Bangladeshi expatriates in various countries in overthrowing the fascist Awami League government, Imran stated that the nation will remember their roles forever.
Shaheed Khan Chowdhury, president of the Maryland State unit BNP presided over the meeting while Md Kazol, general secretary of the same unit moderated the event.
