Experts for raising awareness to prevent kidney disease

Experts have underscored the need to formulate policy for widespread coverage of massive awareness-raising programmes across the country, primarily targeting the prevention of kidney diseases.
In this context, the Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS), a voluntary healthcare organisation, arranged a programme in honour of the language martyrs, marking International Mother Language Day 2025 at the 'Talim Ghar' ground in the Hatibandha area under Sakhipur upazila of Tangail.
More than 3,500 poor patients suffering from various diseases, including kidney, heart, liver, gynaecological, gastro, diabetes and skin conditions, received free treatment and necessary medicine on Friday at the Free Medical Camp in Tangail, said a press release on Saturday.
A team of more than 50 physicians and technologists, led by renowned kidney specialist and KAMPS Chairman Prof Dr MA Samad, treated the patients throughout the day.
A discussion session on preventing kidney disease through lifestyle changes also took place at the same venue.
The Managing Director and CEO of Sonali Bank PLC, Md Shawkat Ali Khan, attended the seminar as the chief guest.
In his address, the chief guest appreciated the initiative taken by KAMPS to honour the language martyrs while providing free medical treatment and medicines to underprivileged patients.
He said solvent individuals and corporate organisations need to come forward to support the humanitarian programmes undertaken by KAMPS.
In his keynote speech, Prof Dr MA Samad stressed the need to formulate policy for widespread coverage of awareness-raising programmes across the country, targeting the prevention of kidney disease.
He said that recognising the urgency of awareness, the World Kidney Day authority has emphasised prevention as its theme for 2025.
KAMPS Chairman and Head of the Department of Nephrology at Anwer Khan Modern Hospital, Prof Dr MA Samad, presided over the sessions.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Information Dr Muhammad Altaf Ul Alam, Proshika Chairman Ms Rokeya Islam, writer and former Joint Secretary Shah Sanaul Haque, KAMPS Executive Director Rezwan Salehin, KAMPS Founder Vice President Poet Nasrin Begum, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Md Amin Sharif, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Information Md Awlad Hossain, Director of the Transport Audit Department Md Aminul Ehsan Kabir, Shakhipur Upazila UNO Md Abdullah Al Rony, Proshika CEO Sirajul Islam, and DPDC DGM Nur Qamrunnahar also spoke on the occasion.
