Student leaders of last year’s mass uprising will launch a student organisation free from political party affiliation before forming a youth-led party this month, it was revealed at a press conference Monday.

The name and other aspects of the student organisation will be decided based on online and offline polls conducted at colleges and universities across the country, Abu Baker Majumder, a convener of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said at the press conference at Madhur Canteen in Dhaka University.

The organisation’s slogan has already been fixed: Student First, Bangladesh First.

Abdul Kader, Abu Baker Majumder, Hasib Al Islam, and others were also present at the press conference.

Insiders claim the new student organisation could be announced on 23 February, and the new political party a day or two later.

Interim government adviser Nahid Islam is all set to lead the new political party as its convener, and, to this end, he would quit from his cabinet position this week.

After much debate, Akhter Hossain has been selected as the member secretary, the second most important post within the party, of the new party, insiders claim.

On the other hand, Abdul Kader and Abu Baker Majumder are expected to hold top positions in the student organisation.
