The victims of the July mass upsurge and their family members staged a demonstration at Shahbagh, one of the city’s busiest intersections, blocking traffic on almost all routes in and around the area on Monday.
A number of victims of the July mass upsurge and their family members thronged the intersection around 1:30 pm protesting discrimination in their treatment facilities.
The government has segregated the people sustained during the July mass upsurge into A, B and C categories to accelerate their treatment.
Still, the victims who are under the C category are being denied treatment with adequate facilities, they said and added it is sheer discrimination.
All the injured people must be treated either under one category or under A or B categories, ensuring equal treatment facilities for all, they said during the demonstration.
They also urged the government to ensure proper treatment for the victims in remote areas and to enact a law safeguarding them from any possible attack or humiliation.
The government has also been urged to bring them under the monthly allowance scheme.
The victims and their family members took to the streets as the government considers recognizing those who sacrificed their lives during the movement as martyrs and the injured as warriors.
