The police have released film stars Meher Afroz Shaon and Sohana Saba after questioning them at the headquarters of Detective Branch in the capital.

The two celebrities have been returned to their families, confirmed Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner of the public relations department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, on Friday afternoon.

On Thursday night, Shaon and Saba were arrested from their Dhanmondi residence and taken to the headquarters of Detective Branch on allegations of involvement in anti-state conspiracies.

The two were allegedly members of “Alo Ashbei,” a Whatsapp group of pro-Awami League artistes, that engaged in both encouraging and downplaying the Awami government crackdown in anti-fascist uprising last year.
