Political parties including the BNP think that ousted autocratic Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself is responsible for sparking the vandalism of the establishments of the fascist Awami League men across the country, including the residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Dhanmondi-32 of the capital.

However, politicians have raised questions regarding the direction of the ongoing violence as the chaos has already spread all over the country. Many worry whether the situation will deteriorate further and if any third party will take a chance to fish in troubled water.

Both politicians and political analysts said that the interim government as well as all the stakeholders has to remain cautious to prevent the situation from sliding into more chaos and control the country’s law and order situation.

At a programme in the capital on Thursday, BNP standing committee member Hafiz Uddin Ahmad on Thursday said Sheikh Hasina is creating chaos in the country by staying in India.

Referring to the demolition of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s house at Dhanmondi-32, Hafiz Uddin said they do not have information about who did it or who is responsible for it, and they were waiting to get clear information regarding it.

“Once we receive complete information, we will publish BNP's response to the media and the public,” he said, adding that, "We believe that some may try to create chaos in order to destroy democracy and become obstacles to democracy in the future. We will try to find out if there is any interference from neighboring countries."

Talking to Daily Sun, BNP chairperson’s adviser Habibur Rahman Habib said “Sheikh Hasina herself is responsible for creating a fresh chaotic situation in the country.”

BNP insiders said the party is closely monitoring the situation to find whether there is any motive of a third party to destabilise the country or any motive to create a chaotic situation in a bid to delay holding the parliamentary election.

Motiur Rahman Akanda, publicity secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami said such incidents of demolishing establishments of Awami League men is taking place as the fascist Hasina after fleeing from the country is inciting chaos in various ways.

“The aggrieved protesters are carrying out such demolishing activities due to the provocative speech of Sheikh Hasina. She is responsible for it,” he added.

BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman said on Wednesday that fugitive former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina must not be allowed to get away with the killing and maiming of thousands of people during her regime.

“Let all political parties and activists, regardless of their party affiliation and views, unite on one point that the dictator who fled to India must be brought to justice. She cannot be spared under any circumstances. She is responsible for these killings,” he said.

The coordinator of the 12-party alliance, Shahadat Hossain Selim, said people have become angry with Sheikh Hasina as she has no repentance even after six months of her fall and she is delivering provocative speech which has aggrieved people further.

“However, all concerned have to remain cautious about the chaotic situation in the country. The government should also pay more attention to keep the law and order situation under control,” he added.

Saiful Huq, general secretary of Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh said in a statement that the demolition of Dhanmondi-32 house of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in response to Sheikh Hasina's statement is undesirable.

“If Hasina's instigation is followed, the achievements of the mass uprising may be lost. The interim government cannot avoid responsibility for the anarchic situation created across the country,” he said.

Saiful Huq further said the student and the people cannot adopt the tactics of the fascists to counter the incitement and sabotage of the fallen fascist forces. “Such activities will only spread social anarchy.”

Terming the vandalism at Dhanmondi-32 as unfortunate and unexpected, the interim government on Thursday in a statement said it was manifestation of people’s anger incited  by the "provocative remarks" made by fugitive Sheikh Hasina from India against the July uprising.

Thousands of revolutionary students and people on Wednesday night demolished the Dhanmondi 32 residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with a wrecking ball in protest against deposed despot Sheikh Hasina’s planned speech from Delhi.

Hasina, who fled the country six months ago following her resignation as prime minister amid a student-led uprising, announced that she would address the student community, triggering widespread outrage. At the same time, her party also announced programmes to take to the streets.

Following the destruction and torching of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's house on Dhanmondi-32 protesters in different districts across the country demolished murals and busts of Sheikh Mujib and houses of Awami League leaders on Thursday.

Talking to Daily Sun about the incidents, Prof Sabbir Ahmed of the political science department at Dhaka University said “The politics of violence which has been continuing for long in the country has got a permanent shape through these incidents of vandalism.”

“After this incident violent political activities may prevail in the country. The interim government should have taken the situation under control,” he added.

Prominent political analyst and economist Professor Mahbub Ullah said the activities of the common protesters and revolutionary students in demolishing establishments of Awami League leaders is just manifestation of people’s anger.

“Sheikh Hasina is hatching different conspiracies and is trying to destabilise the country by her men. This destruction is just a reaction to her misdeeds,” he added.
