Awami League presidium member and Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury today said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is now recognised as an emissary of peace in the world community, BSS reports.

"Bangladesh is now identified as a role model of development and progress in different countries around the world due to the Prime Minister's relentless activities. It's a matter of huge glory for Bangladesh that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will co-chair four meetings of the United Nations along with US president," she said.

Matia Chowdhury said this while speaking at a discussion followed by a doa mahfil organised by Bangladesh Krishak League (BKL) at the National Press Club auditorium in celebration of the 69th birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

BKL president Motahar Hossain Mollah presided over the discussion titled "Agriculture, farmers and Krishak League", also addressed, among others, by Awami League's agriculture affairs secretary Dr Abdur Razzak, MP, and BKL general secretary Shamsul Haque Reza.

The minister said, "Two judges from Bangladesh have been appointed in the International Court of Arbitration and it has been possible as the rule of law has been ensured in Bangladesh. The international community has experienced that the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina believes in the rule of law.

"Judges from Bangladesh are appointed in the International Court of Arbitration, which has never been experienced in the past, as the trial of Bangabandhu Killing Case and the war criminals were conducted with transparency."

Highlighting different projects of the Prime Minister and successes of her government, the senior Awami League leader said facing many upheaval tasks, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly to transform Bangladesh into a prosperous state.

"We are celebrating Sheikh Hasina's 69th birthday this year but we could not celebrate 69th birthday of Bangabandhu, as the assassins killed Father of the Nation before he was 69. We want to celebrate Sheikh Hasina's birthday many times during her lifetime and it should be in our prayers," Matia Chowdhury said adding that all the programmes of Sheikh Hasina on environment and rural development have been applauded as role model in the world.

Dr Abdur Razzak said Bangladesh has been elevated to a middle income state from lower middle income state due to different initiatives taken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the development of country's agriculture sector.

"She (Sheikh Hasina) has been recognised as an emissary of peace in the community of nations for inking the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Agreement and winning a huge maritime area peacefully from India and Myanmar. The world leaders have been appreciating her leadership as a prolific statesman for her accomplishments and she has been decorated with the prestigious "Champions of the Earth" award of the United Nations today," he added.

Later, Matia Chowdhury along with the BKL leaders cut a big cake in celebrating the 69th birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and distributed pieces of the cake among the workers. Earlier, doa was conducted by BKL leader Moulana Omar Faruque seeking divine blessings for long and successful life of Sheikh Hasina.
