8 BUET students expelled permanently

The authorities of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have permanently expelled eight students from the university.

In addition, the university authorities suspended 52 students for different terms and served show cause notices.

The decision was taken at a meeting in recent times.

BUET Director of Student Welfare Department (DSW) Prof Dr AKM Masud confirmed the matter.

Prof Dr AKM Masud said, “According to the decision of a meeting, eight students have been expelled for life for violating campus discipline. Apart from this, 12 students have also been expelled for different terms. Six have been expelled for two terms and warned for the last time. Seat allocation for residential halls of seven students has been cancelled and 27 others have been warned.”

According to university sources, a large part of the punished students were involved in the politics of the banned organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL). Students also protested on the campus to take action against them on various occasions.
