Two ships carrying 37,000 tonnes of rice from the neighbouring countries have reached the Chattogram port.

Among the shipments, the MV ATN Victory transported 22,000 tonnes of Atap rice from Myanmar, which was imported under a government-to-government deal, the Ministry of Food said in a press release on Wednesday.

Another shipment of 15,000 tonnes of boiled rice was imported from India through an open tender arrangement. The consignment was transported by the MV BMC Pandora.

Necessary arrangements have already been made to ensure smooth unloading of rice, the ministry added.

These shipments follow a separate agreement between Bangladesh and Pakistan to import rice.

On 14 January, the Directorate General of Food signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) in this regard.
