The trial of the ousted fascist Awami League will have to be held first for genocide, then the question of its participation in the next polls will arise, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Shafiqur Rahman has said.

“First, let's bring the perpetrators of the genocide in July and August (of 2024) to book, then the discussion over Awami League’s participation in the elections will come. Awami League is not a political party, they are a murder syndicate,” he said at a meeting of the activists of the party’s Barishal city and district units in Hemayet Uddin Eidgah ground in the city on Tuesday.
“We want a trial of those involved in the genocide, their party to be tried as well,” he added.

Drawing attention of the ousted fascist Sheikh Hasina, Shafiqur Rahman said if they claim themselves as patriots, then they should return to the country and face the trial.
“Our leaders were hanged on false charges. You (Awami League) have openly committed genocide. Jamaat-e-Islami has been the party that was most persecuted by the Awami League,” he said.
The Jamaat ameer also recalled the sacrifice of July martyr Abu Sayed in Rangpur.
“Abu Sayeed is a great hero of freedom. We must continue the fight for which the martyrs gave their lives in July-August. Thousands of people are living with disabilities; they are the living martyrs,” he added.
Meanwhile, in a move to unite the Islamist political parties and organisations, Shafiqur Rahman on Tuesday met Islami Andolan Bangladesh Ameer Syed Rezaul Karim at Charmonai.
The Jamaat ameer paid a courtesy call on Islamic Andolan Ameer Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim at the Darbar Sharif of Charmonai Pir at noon. Later, he attended a lunch hosted by the pir.
