BNP Joint Secretary General Syed Imran Saleh Prince has said that social unrest will intensify if the government continues to waste time in the name of reforms.

“Reform is a continuous process. It cannot be completed in a day, a month, or even a year. So, it is urgent to announce an election roadmap without wasting time in the name of reforms,” said the BNP leader on Tuesday.

While addressing a programme at Haluaghat of Mymensingh, marking the 89th birth anniversary of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, he said there is no alternative but to hold an election immediately to ensure the country’s sustainable progress and overall stability.

Blaming the ousted Awami League for turning the country into a dysfunctional one, he said the fascist government established a reign of terror in the country during its last 15 years of rule.

The country has been turned into a safe haven for corrupt individuals and looters, with Sheikh Hasina’s family acting as the ringleader in accumulating wealth through illegal means, Imran Saleh said.

Awami League leaders must be held accountable and tried for their involvement in corruption, killings and the looting of public funds, he warned.

Marking the birth anniversary, several events like essay writing and painting competitions and sports were arranged on the Shaheed Smrity Degree College ground where Imran Saleh distributed prizes among the winners.

He also distributed warm clothes among the cold-hit poor people in the area.
