BGB, Ansar retain Victory Day Handball men’s and women’s titles

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Ansar and VDP retained men’s and women’s titles of the Victory Day Handball Competition (Men and Women) 2024 respectively on Friday.

BGB men’s handball team secured the title of this annual domestic competition overall six times after their first win in 2014. 

With the day's feat, they also clinched this title six times in a row -- 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

On the other hand, the Ansar and VDP’s women’s handball team clinched this title for the fifth time in a row -- 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Meanwhile, BGB beat Ansar and VDP by 30-27 goals in the men’s final while Ansar and VDP beat Police Handball Club by 33-15 goals in the women’s final, both on this day at Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium here.

BGB’s Tarikur Rahman was adjudged the best male player of the competition and Ansar’s Alpona Akter was adjudged the best female player of the competition.

Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF) general secretary Assaduzzaman Kohinoor distributed the prizes as the chief guest.

BHF treasurer Md Jahangir Hossain and other officials were also present on the occasion.
