Three farmers were killed and five others injured as a goods-laden truck rammed into a three-wheeler, locally known as Nasiman, on the Pabna-Santhia Road in Pabna early Friday.

The deceased were Dhani, 55, Khairul Islam Khokan, 35, and Russell, 28. All were residents of the Rangamatia area in Santhia upazila.

The injured, whose conditions were stated to be critical, were admitted to Pabna General Hospital. The victims were going to Santhia upazila headquarters from Rangamatia to harvest paddy.

Abdul Latif, inspector (investigation) of Santhia police station, said the Pabna-bound truck hit the Nasiman in the Rangamatia area around 4:30am, leaving three dead on the spot and five others injured.

The bodies were sent to the Pabna General Hospital’s morgue for autopsy, he said, adding that the truck was seized but its driver managed to flee.
