The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, which led the ouster of dictator Sheikh Hasina, and Jatiya Nagorik Committee will form a new political party led by students and people within one-two months for offering an alternative to the “country’s pervasive dirty politics.”
Jatiya Nagorik Committee Nasiruddin Patwary made the announcement addressing reporters after paying tributes at the National Mausoleum in Savar marking the Victory Day on Monday.
The new party would work to realise the aspirations of July-August student-led uprising for upholding a new corruption- and terrorism-free country before the world.
The new party would comprise of the same forces that led the ouster of fascist Awami League regime on 5 August, and sought to replace fascist political tendencies with a reformed state apparatus.
Referring to elections expected by first half of 2026, Nasiruddin told reporters the new party would never support holding the next general elections until all the Awami League miscreants are tried for their role in a civilian killing spree during the July-August uprising.
The country has a history of holding elections without trying the killers of peaceful anti-government protesters whenever a forcible regime change occurs, Nasiruddin reminded urging all to work towards ensuring the justice against Awami League killers.
Through the July-August uprising, the country also gained independence from Indian hegemony, Nasiruddin said, cautioning that the young generation should still stay active against conspiracies being hatched by New Delhi and Awami League.
