The government has cancelled the appointment of two commissioners of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) before the completion of their terms.

The development comes following a report published in the Daily Sun on the irregularities of the two commissioners -- Musfiq Mannan Chowdhury and Md Aminul Haque -- on 30 September under the headline "IRREGULARITIES AT BTRC: Gross violation of service rules by two commissioners!".

According to sources, a notice was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday cancelling their appointments.

The ousted Awami League government appointed Musfiq Mannan and Aminul Haque as BTRC commissioners on 11 December 2022 and 19 February 2024 respectively.

They were supposed to hold their respective posts for three years from the date of joining.

However, they were removed as part of the move to overhaul the BTRC, the sources said.
