Rangpur Riders official said that they will soon clear air regarding Imran Tahir’s claim of not being paid by the franchise through a statement from his agent.
The South African leg spinner took a dig at Riders ahead of the Global Super League final claiming that he owes money from Riders and it soon turned out to be matter of discussion in different media outlets.
“Imran Tahir, during the toss of our third match where we defeated Guyana, intentionally tried to humiliate us. We were waiting for the final game to be over, whether we became champions or runners-up didn’t matter. We’ve already spoken to his agent about this,” Ishtiaque Sadeque, chief executive officer (CEO) of Rangpur Riders, told reporters at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on 11 December.
“It’s not just Imran Tahir, there are four foreign players who are due part payments. Even the cricket board is aware of this. Through the cricket board, we have an email sent to their agents, which includes the payment schedule. According to that schedule, we’ve been making payments. I don’t know why Imran Tahir did this, and the media picked it up and turned it into big news. We haven’t made any official statement yet. However, we’ll release a statement via Imran Tahir’s agent to the media, confirming that we’ve been paying according to our commitments and schedules. The next payment is scheduled for late December, and it will be processed as planned,”
“Personally, I have a very good relationship with Imran Tahir, and I respect him a lot. But the way he insulted Rangpur and Bangladesh that day—Allah has already delivered immediate justice! I have nothing more to say,” he said.
"Before the tournament, I met him (Tahir) in the USA and we talked. He didn’t mention anything about this issue. But that day, for some reason, he decided to say things that insulted us. If you noticed, he was very angry after losing the match. Imran Tahir is a Muslim, and so are we, but what he did was wrong. He didn’t provide accurate information. You will know the correct information through his agent,” he added.
