Govt issues 13 guidelines to check officials’ foreign travel

The Chief Adviser’s office has issued 13 new guidelines to regulate foreign travel by government officials in a bid to end their old practice of embarking on pleasure travels with taxpayers’ money.

Circulars in this regard were sent to relevant state bodies on Monday, and the home ministry confirmed the matter to reporters on Wednesday.

The guidelines are:

  1. To generally discourage foreign travel
  2. Requiring officials and advisers to submit their next year’s potential travel plan
  3. All advisers, secretaries and officials must avoid going on vacation one after another.
  4. Adviser and secretaries of any given ministry must avoid going on vacation simultaneously
  5. Officials invited to seminars and workshops must submit the designation of the official invited and add a list of the officials from other countries being invited
  6. Officials must mention the necessity of his/her particular travel, the relevancy of the travel for the particular official’s job
  7. Travels with little need must be avoided
  8. All government officials must scrap pleasure travel plans
  9. The officials must scrap lengthy travel plans
  10. Officials must submit the previous year’s travel details
