After their historic Test win against West Indies, Bangladesh’s Test players are returning to London from the Caribbean islands in economy class tickets.
Eight Test cricketers – Mominul Haque, Taijul Islam, Shadman Islam, Shahadat Hossain, Mahidul Islam, Zakir Hasan, Mahmudul Hasan and Hasan Murad – are returning home from the West Indies.
Usually, Bangladeshi players travel in business class while representing their country in different tours though the Test cricketers seemed unlucky in this regard as some of them had to travel to West Indies in economy class as well.
BCB officials said that they could not arrange business class tickets for them as it was not available.
“We could not get the business class tickets for them, and as a result they are travelling in economy class from West Indies to London,” BCB cricket operation in-charge Shahriar Nafees told Daily Sun on Wednesday.
“Following the Covid, the number of flights decreased from London to Caribbean and Caribbean to London. There are some daily flights for some islands while for some [other] islands there are flights every alternate day. It is the Christmas season now. Even though we started booking tickets two months back, we could not get the business class tickets and as a result they are returning back to London from the Caribbean with economy class tickets,” he added.
“It was also the case when we travelled there. We got eight business class tickets which we distributed among senior cricketers and pace bowlers,” Nafees concluded.
