Bangladesh roared back into the second Test against the West Indies at Sabina Park, thanks to Nahid Rana’s maiden Test five-wicket haul that dismantled the hosts' batting line-up at the Sabina Park in Jamaica on Monday.

At stumps on Day 3, the Tigers held a commanding 211-run lead with five wickets in hand, positioning themselves for a series-levelling victory.

Rana’s fiery spell, which started late on Day 2, came to full fruition as he finished with impressive figures of 5 for 61. His extra bounce and sharp pace proved too much for the West Indies, who crumbled from 85 for 1 to a paltry 146 all out in their first innings.

Rana’s dismissal of Kraigg Brathwaite, caught at gully off a 142 kph delivery, set the tone. He followed it up with a series of strikes, including removing Kavem Hodge with a mistimed pull and wrapping up the innings with the wickets of Alzarri Joseph and Kemar Roach.

Support came from Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud, who shared key scalps, while Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in with a wicket each. This collective effort left the West Indies trailing by 18 runs after the first innings.

In reply, Bangladesh countered the West Indies’ aggressive bowling and verbal exchanges with an equally spirited batting display.

Shahadat Hossain’s quickfire 28 at No. 3 set the tone before Shadman Islam (46) and stand-in No. 4 Mehidy Hasan Miraz (42) added a brisk 70-run stand.

Miraz, filling in for the ill Mominul Haque, dazzled with four consecutive boundaries off Shamar Springer, igniting momentum for the visitors.

Though the middle order faced challenges, Litton Das and Jaker Ali ensured Bangladesh crossed the 200-run lead, with Jaker remaining unbeaten at the close.

The absence of Kemar Roach, sidelined by injury, further hampered the West Indies’ bowling efforts.

With a strong position heading into Day 4, the Tigers will look to extend their lead and secure a memorable comeback win in Jamaica.
