Since the inception of Bangladesh Premier League, country’s lone franchise-based T20 tournament, there had always been issues regarding unpaid dues of the franchises.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed said on Sunday that they are taking legal measures to solve the issue.
It was learnt BCB had to extend deadline for franchises as they failed to deposit guarantee money BDT Four Crores to the board by November 20.
“For franchises with unpaid fees from the last BPL, we’ve taken legal arbitration measures. There’s a process underway to recover the dues, although the first check hasn’t been received yet. Four to five teams have significant pending amounts. For example, Chittagong Kings owes less, and we’ve brought that matter to a certain stage, but it hasn’t been resolved yet. We hope to recover the money soon,” he said adding that they want to engage people of different quarter for this edition of BPL," Faruque said during the logo unveiling ceremony of Youth Festival and the unmasking of the mascot for Bangladesh Premier League T20 2025 which took place at the Hotel InterContinental in Dhaka on Sunday.
“The theme we are working on, the importance of the game is definitely there, along with that, if we can involve everyone something that hasn’t been done before—we are making a fresh attempt this time. How successful this will be can only be determined after it concludes. However, I am highly optimistic about this initiative, taken with the help of the Chief Advisor and Asif Mahmud. I believe this effort will be very effective. It’s a good start, and we’ll see how far we can take it,” he added.
“If we can spread this festival across the country, that will embody our concept this time. We aim to engage the youth and have already taken several steps that are unprecedented. The extent of its success will become clearer as we progress, but this is just the beginning,” he said.
“I believe this initiative was started from the Chief Advisor’s office. Certainly, during the games, a few guests will visit and observe,” he added.
Attendees observed a minute's silence in remembrance of the July Martyrs during the ceremony, organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in association with the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
