A bus carrying passengers overturned and fell into a canal at Meradia in Dhaka’s Banasree area on Saturday evening.

Casualties could not be confirmed in the incident immediately.

Firefighters were alerted to the matter around 5:45pm, said Fire Service and Civil Defence control room duty officer Rozina Akter.

“A bus of Alif Paribahan overturned and fell into the canal at Meradia. The police informed us about the matter to salvage the vehicle,” she said.

Two firefighting units rushed to the spot, Rozina added.

However, witnesses claimed that an altercation between the driver and the passengers caused the accident.
