ABG Bashundhara Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2023-24 runners-up Mohammedan Sporting Club crushed Dhaka Wanderers Club by 6-0 goals in the opening game of the Bashundhara Group BPL 2024-25 at the Shaheed Barkat Stadium in Gazipur on Friday.
Dhaka Wanderers, the 88-year-old Dhaka-based outfit, earned their maiden promotion to the top-tier league after finishing as runners-up in the ABG Bashundhara Bangladesh Championship League (BCL) 2023–24.
The traditional black and white earlier made a disappointing start in the ongoing domestic season 2024-25 as they suffered 1-3 goals defeat to BPL champions Bashundhara Kings in the single-leg match of the curtain-raising tournament -- Bangladesh 2.0 Challenge Cup 2024-25, Powered by Bashundhara Group -- at the Bashundhara Kings Arena on 22 November.
However, Nigerian forward Sunday Chukwuemeka Emmanuel opened the scoring for Mohammedan in the 5th minute, while midfielder Minhajur Abedin Rakib and Malian forward Souleymane Diabate added to the tally with goals in the 19th and 24th minutes, respectively.
Debutants Dhaka Wanderers’ misery continued after the half time when Ghanaian midfielder Boateng Ernest scored the fourth goal in the 80th minute and Diabate added his second just after nine minutes (89th minute). Forward Sourav Dewan added the sixth goal for the traditional black and white in the 90+9th minute.
