Dhaka Bar Association leaders on Tuesday night issued a 24-hour ultimatum asking the government to bring to justice the culprits behind the killing of a lawyer in Chattogram hours earlier.

If the deadline is not met, they would render dysfunctional all court proceedings across the country, the lawyers warned while staging a protest march through Dhaka city streets.

Dhaka Bar Association President Md Khorshed Miah Alam, and General Secretary Sayed Nazrul Islam led over 200 lawyers in the march.

During the march, Sayed Nazrul Islam alleged terrorists killed Advocate Saiful Islam Alif. If the terrorists are not captured within 24 hours, lawyers would unite across the country to take measures against the culprits, and nothing can be done to prevent this, Sayed Nazrul Islam threatened.

In Chattogram city, abour 3pm Tuesday, Advocate Saiful was hacked to death by unidentified people on court premises after Hindu protesters clashed with law enforcers seeking the release of controversial leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari.
