BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Sunday wrote on “X”, formerly twitter, that only a government voted to power by the general people can begin the works for rebuilding a country.
He apparently took a dig at the interim government’s push to defer the general elections until the completion of its state overhaul projects for pre-empting any further repetition of fascist rule over the country.
However, Tarique warned that the more the next general election is delayed, the stronger would become the compromised state system ousted Awami League leaders left behind for their final recluse.
The existing problems weighing on the farmers, public health sector, education sector, business challenges and politicisation of the public services would obstruct the country’s march towards becoming a developed nation, Tarique said, pointing out the issues the interim government has so far been struggling to address.
In an elected government, the people’s elected representatives must be respected and the representatives also must serve the people. Both parties must be involved in the government mechanisms so that the country as a whole can ensure equality, representativeness and development for all, Tarique said.
