Marking his debut with the web film “Antonagar”, young actor Prantar Dastider has continued to prove himself through projects like “Tithidor”, “Notun Premer Golpo”, and “Section 302”. Beginning his career as a model and assistant director, he eventually found his calling in acting. In a conversation with the Daily Sun, the actor discusses his career, upcoming ventures, and more.

Daily Sun: When did you start acting, and what was your debut project?

Prantar Dastider : I was born and raised in Chattogram, where I grew up in a culturally enriched family. My father was a theatre artiste, and I frequently took part in cultural activities in school and in my neighbourhood.

In 2014, I moved to Dhaka to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering. During my student life, I dreamed of writing and producing screenplays, and that opportunity eventually came my way. In 2016–17, I was awarded a scholarship through a joint initiative by BRAC University and Pathshala. This scholarship allowed me to work as an assistant director in various short films and screenplay workshops.

After completing my studies, I regularly worked as a line producer and assistant director. For a while, I also worked at an advertising agency. However, by chance, I was offered an acting role in Goutam Koiri’s web film “Antonagar”, which became my acting debut.

Daily Sun: What inspired you to pursue this career?

Prantar: After “Antonagar”, I worked in several commercials and music videos. Later, I had the privilege of collaborating with some of the country’s top directors, such as Mabrur Rashid Banna and Vicky Zahed. I consider myself fortunate to have had such opportunities early in my career. Once I started acting, I fell in love with the profession. I realised that acting is my comfort zone, and I want to continue doing it for as long as possible.

Daily Sun: Who are your inspirations in the world of acting?

Prantar: The list is quite extensive. Indian actors like Utpal Dutt, Rabi Ghosh, Naseeruddin Shah, and Soumitra Chatterjee are some of my inspirations. Whenever I watched Soumitra Chatterjee on screen, I was captivated by his performances. I often wondered, “How can an actor be this exceptional?” I’ve always admired him and aspired to become an actor of his calibre.

In Bangladesh, my favourites include Shamol Mawla and Shakib Khan. The expression Shakib Khan delivers in the song “Laage Ura Dhura” is simply outstanding.

Daily Sun: Any thoughts about acting in films?

Prantar: Yes, absolutely. Every actor dreams of seeing themselves on the big screen, and I am no exception. In fact, I am currently in discussions about working on a film. However, I feel that I need to refine my skills before fully transitioning into films. Acting is a continuous learning process. Every day, I discover something new, and I am thoroughly enjoying the journey and the challenges that come with it.

Daily Sun: Which medium do you prefer as a new-generation actor?

Prantar: I am open to working across all mediums, whether it’s OTT platforms, theatrical films, or television projects. It could be a tele-drama, web series, or short film. I am comfortable with all formats. However, my top priorities are the content, my character, and the director. A good director has the ability to bring out the best in an actor.

This generation, often referred to as Gen Z, is highly explorative in the entertainment world. Many innovative concepts emerge from them, so staying updated is crucial.

Daily Sun: Any upcoming projects that the audience should look forward to?

Prantar: I have a few projects lined up for Valentine’s Day next year. Additionally, I will begin shooting for several Eid projects at the start of the year. Most notably, I am working on a project under the direction of Mostofa Sarwar Farooki bhai. I am very excited about this project, which is expected to be released later this year.

Daily Sun: What would you like to share with your audience?

Prantar: It has been an honour and privilege to share my work with the audience. I aim to continue improving and delivering better performances in the future. I am deeply grateful to my audience for their support. Please keep me in your blessings and share your feedback – it will help me grow and become a better actor.
