Jewellers have inflated the price of gold by Tk1,995 to Tk1,39,443 per bhori (11.664 grams) within a day of hiking the price of pure gold in the local market.

The Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring of the Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) made the decision at a meeting held on Thursday.

The price of 22-carat gold will now be Tk11,955 per gram, and 21-carat Tk11,411 per gram, according to a press release signed by Masudur Rahman, chairman of the committee.

The price of 18-carat gold has been fixed at Tk9,781 a gram while that of traditional gold at Tk8,031 per gram.

New tariffs will come into effect on Friday, the release added.

However, prices of silver remained unchanged.

The price of 22-carat silver is Tk221 per gram, 21-carat Tk210, 18-carat Tk181, and traditional one is Tk136 per gram.
