Bangladesh will face West Indies in the Test series without captain Najmul Hossain along with veteran campaigner Mushfiqur Rahim due to injury, while Shakib Al Hasan has already bid farewell to Test cricket.
As a result, Tigers will take the field with a relatively inexperienced XI against the Caribbean team. However, despite the inexperienced squad, senior assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin is pleased with the players' work ethic.
The Caribbean tour is the first assignment in Salahuddin’s second chapter with the national team, and he is currently with the team in the West Indies.
"This squad is relatively inexperienced. What I like the most is that the players are motivated to play well. This desire is crucial, especially in Test cricket. I am very impressed with everyone’s work ethic," Salahuddin said.
Before heading to the West Indies, he worked with the players at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. Although not all players were present in Mirpur, he is now working with the full squad in the West Indies.
"It’s been almost 14 years since I last came to the West Indies, where I started my international coaching career. I feel very good seeing our boys here. What impressed me the most is their work ethic. Along with that, their determination and purposeful practice make me believe the team has progressed a bit compared to before," he added.
"The cricketers here have big dreams. They are working hard to overcome their challenges. Insha Allah, I hope we will perform better as a Test nation," he concluded.
