India and Japan have signed an agreement for the co-development of Unified Complex Radio Antenna (UNICORN), a mast with integrated communication systems that will help improve the stealth characteristics of the Indian Navy.
When implemented, this would be the first case of co-development of defence equipment between India and Japan, the Ministry of Defence said on Saturday.
The Indian Navy is pursuing the induction of these advanced systems which will be co-developed by India’s state-owned Bharat Electronics Limited in India with Japanese collaboration.
The agreement, or memorandum of implementation, was signed at the Embassy of India in Tokyo on Friday.
This MOI was signed and exchanged between Sibi George, ambassador of India to Japan, and Ishikawa Takeshi, commissioner of Acquisition Technology and Logistics Agency under Japan Ministry of Defence.
