Chattogram Division batsman Shahadat Hossain Dipu will replace Najmul Hossain in the Test squad for the tour of West Indies.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the news through a press release on Tuesday.
BCB’s selection panel called up the 22-year-old right-hander after captain Najmul was ruled out of the Test series following a groin strain.
This right-handed batter was not considered for the India and South Africa series. This time, Shahadat, who led Chattogram, scored a century against Barishal in the ongoing NCL. His 116-run innings reopened the door to the national team for him.
Shahadat made his Test debut in the series against New Zealand in November last year. So far, he has played four Tests, the last one being in March this year against Sri Lanka. In four Tests, he has scored 118 runs at an average of 14.75.
On Monday, the Test squad members departed for the West Indies. Those who were in the ODI squad will travel from Dubai.
Wicketkeeper-batter Mahidul Islam Ankon still hasn’t received his visa. Shahadat and Ankon are scheduled to catch the flight to the West Indies together.
The Bangladesh team usually travels to the Caribbean via London or the United States. This time, the players are going with a UK visiting visa.
According to BCB sources, Ankon’s visa is still pending. Shahadat's visa process was also delayed due to his late inclusion.
Before the start of the two-match Test series, Bangladesh will play a four-day match in Antigua from 15-19 November.
The first Test will begin in Antigua on 22 November. The second and final Test will be held in Jamaica from 30 November.
