Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed missed the deadline for announcing the standing committee of the board yet again.
Since taking over the reign as board president on 21 August, Faruque on several occasions insisted that he is going to announce the standing committee sooner than later.
Recently, BCB formed a constitution amendment committee to ensure that the board remains functional and responsive to contemporary needs.
The decision was taken during the 15th meeting of the BCB Board of Directors at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. This development came after the National Sports Council (NSC) asked them to clarify their stance regarding their present state of affairs as well as form a committee for amending the constitution.
NSC sent two separate letters to BCB last month and according to a letter seen and obtained by Daily Sun, it was clearly stated in one letter that the Board needs to form a sub-committee to make necessary reforms to the BCB's existing constitution.
In another letter, NSC requested the board to inform about the posts of directors terminated/vacated due to their absence in 03 (three) consecutive meetings as per clause 15.2 of the constitution of BCB currently in force.
After receiving the letter, the board called the 15th board meeting and following the meeting board announced that it accepted resignations of directors A M Naimur Rahman Durjoy, Khaled Mahmud and Md Enayet Husain Siraj while directorship of 11 directors has been vacated in accordance with the BCB constitution due to their absence from three or more consecutive meetings
The directors are former BCB president Nazmul Hasan along with Manzur Kader, A J M Nasir Uddin, Sk Sohel, Advocate Anwarul Islam, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, Muhammed Ismail Haider Mallick, Tanvir Ahmed (Titu), Obeid Rashid Nizam, Gazi Golam Murtoza and Nazib Ahmed.
The Nazmul-led panel ran the board for over a decade before Faruque Ahmed took over since several members of the board went into exile after the Awami League government was forced to step down in August.
Before heading for the meeting, Faruque during an impromptu press conference on 30 October, announced that they will form the standing committee by next seven days, though nothing in that materialized.
“I am not sure when the standing committee will be formed,” a current board director told Daily Sun on request on anonymity.
It is understood that the current BCB president is taking all the major decisions while some of the other directors are not sure about their role and activities in the board apart from Nazmul Abedin, who is currently appointed as the member secretary of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), country’s lone franchise-based T20 tournament, along with fulfilling several other duties.
Currently, there is no head of the BCB cricket operation, which is considered to be the most important committee of the board, as chairman (Jalal Yunus) and vice chairman(Khaled Mahmud) of the BCB cricket operation resigned from the board earlier.
