The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has formed new partial committees for four metropolitan city units, including Dhaka North, and six district units as part of its strategy to reorganise and strengthen its structure ahead of the next parliamentary elections.
In a press release issued on Monday by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the party outlined these restructuring efforts. He also indicated that further committee announcements for various units and affiliate organisations would follow in the coming weeks.
The newly approved committees are for the BNP’s Dhaka North, Chattogram, Barishal, and Sylhet city units, as well as for Moulvibazar, Sunamganj, Brahmanbaria, Kushtia, Mymensingh South and Sherpur districts.
As part of the restructuring, Aminul Haque, a former national football team captain, has been appointed convener of the Dhaka North City unit. Mostafa Zaman is a member secretary in a six-member committee. Joint conveners in this committee include Mostafizur Rahman Segun, SM Jahangir, Ferdowsi Ahmed Mishti and Abdur Razzak, who will also serve as office secretary.
For Chattogram, the BNP announced a 53-member full committee, headed by Ershadullah as convener and Nazimuddin Rahman as member secretary.
In Barishal, a 42-member committee was established, with Moniruzzaman Khan Faruk appointed convener and Ziauddin Sikder Zia as member secretary.
The Sylhet unit saw the formation of a 170-member committee, with Rezaul Hasan Koyes Ludi as acting president and Imdad Hossain Chowdhury as general secretary.
In the districts, Moulvibazar and Sunamganj each received a 32-member convening committee, led by Faizur Rahman Moyun and Kalim Uddin Ahmad Milon as conveners, respectively. No member secretaries have been designated for these committees.
Brahmanbaria’s 32-member committee will be headed by Advocate Abdul Mannan as the convener and Sirajul Islam Siraj as the member secretary.
Kushtia’s 31-member committee includes Kutub Uddin Ahmed as convener and Engineer Md Zakir Hossain Sarkar as member secretary.
In the three-member committees in Mymensingh South and Sherpur districts, Md Zakir Hossain Babul and Rokonuzzaman Sarkar Rokon will serve as convener and member secretary, respectively, in Mymensingh South. Md Hazrat Ali and Advocate Md Sirajul Islam will hold these positions in Sherpur.
As part of the party’s ongoing efforts to refresh its leadership at the local level, the announcement follows the BNP’s recent dissolution of the Dhaka North City unit’s committee on 29 September, only two and a half months after its formation.
