Students of Islamic University in Kushtia staged demonstrations on Sunday, demanding a ban on the political activities of the Awami League and the Jatiya Party.

They brought out a protest procession from the ‘Zia Mor’ of the university under the banner of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and paraded through different places on the campus.

The procession ended at the entrance of the university. Later, a brief rally was held there.

The demonstrators also burned copies of the Bengali daily, Prothom Alo, with a call to boycott the national newspaper.

In his speech, IU unit Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Coordinator SM Sweet said the terrorist agents of the Chhatra League and the Awami League are currently taking refuge in various parties, including the Jatiya Party and the BNP, and are conspiring to destabilise the entire country.

He said the Jatiya Party is also an autocratic party of Bangladesh because it was a key accomplice in the rigged election of 2009, the uncontested general election of 2014, and the midnight elections of 2018.

People and students all over the country have already boycotted the Jatiya Party, the coordinator said, adding that students of Islamic University have declared a war against those who will assist in rehabilitating the leaders and activists of the Awami League and the Chhatra League.
