Jahangirnagar University (JU) chapter of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has announced a 41-point proposal for the widespread reformation on the campus.

Chhatra Shibir, also the student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, came up with their proposals during a press conference at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of the university around 11:30am on Sunday.

JU Shibir President Harunur Rashid Rafi and Secretary Muhibur Rahman Muhib jointly addressed the event moderated by its Publicity Secretary Abdullah Al Mamun Saki.

At the outset of the conference, they remember all the martyrs, crippled and injured students, and masses of the July Revolution.

Their proposals include the creation of a safe environment for female students, strict actions against drug trade and its abuse, resolution of dormitory occupancy issues, prevention of student harassment and violence, and ensuring justice in murder and other criminal cases.

“Our aim is to ensure an accessible campus for the students with disabilities, provide high-speed internet facilities, improve departmental infrastructure, activate the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union, and conduct elections for dormitory and departmental student councils,” said the Shibir president.

The leadership also proposed various measures, including scholarships, financial aid, educational loans, academic master plans, reform on examination schedules, paid research and teaching assistant positions, research budget allocation, comprehensive medical facilities, a creative cultural environment, infrastructural development, and environmental preservation.

Regarding the formation of a new full-fledged branch committee, Secretary Muhibur Rahman Muhib said, “Our activities have been restricted for a long time. We have now publicly announced our initiatives, and students with similar mindsets are starting to respond. We will soon complete this process and announce a full-fledged committee at an appropriate time.”
