Dengue claims 4 more lives in 24 hours

Four more deaths due to dengue were reported in the 24 hours leading up to Sunday morning, raising the total fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 314 this year.
In the recent fatalities, two were reported in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) are and one each in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), and Chattogram division (excluding the Chattogram city corporation area).
During this period, 1,306 additional patients were hospitalised with the viral fever, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Of these, 277 dengue patients were admitted in Dhaka North City Corporation areas, while 144 others were hospitalised in Dhaka South City Corporation areas.
Currently, 4,112 patients are receiving treatment in various hospitals across the country. Since 1 January, a total of 64,471 dengue cases have been reported.
Last year was particularly severe, with 1,705 deaths recorded, making it the deadliest year on record.
The DGHS recorded 3,21,179 dengue cases and 3,18,749 recoveries in 2023.
