Police on Wednesday noon fired water cannons and charged batons to disperse demonstrators marching towards the Shikkha Bhababan to press home their demand of raising the government job entry age limit to 35 years.
In response to the demands, the interim government has raised the entry age limit to 32 years from 30 years, but the job seekers have rejected the move.
On Wednesday, university students and government job seekers first attempted to stage a sit-in in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh. Facing police obstructions, they moved their demonstration back by some yards.
At noon, they started a march towards the Shikkha Bhaban, but near the Supreme Court, the police intercepted the procession, dispersing the demonstrators with water cannons and baton charges.
