The National Sports Council (NSC) has sent two letters to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to clarify their present state of affairs and inform them regarding the way the board is running at the moment.
BCB President Faruque Ahmed has yet to form any standing committee despite several directors being absent on three successive board meetings, which according to the constitution suggests the directors absent for three successive meetings cannot hold their posts.
“Bangladesh Cricket Board is requested to inform about the number of posts of directors terminated/vacated due to their absence in 03 (three) consecutive meetings as per clause 15.2 of the Constitution of Bangladesh Cricket Board currently in force,” the NSC stated in its letter.
“It is also requested to inform whether any action has been taken in this regard to fill up the said vacant post as per clause 13.4. It is also requested to inform how many consecutive meetings (with dates) any director is/were absent during the current term.”
Meanwhile, the sports council sent another letter about whether they want the board to form a sub-committee to make necessary reforms to the BCB’s existing constitution.
“An acceptable (to all) and inclusive constitution plays a vital role to bring good governance in the sports arena, which has been seen over the time. Besides, a constitution is a sacred deposit to the respective organisations. The constitution also plays a vital role to confirm accountability and responsibility. NSC determines to create such an ideal environment and firmly believes that BCB will stay with NSC,” the council said.
“NSC traditionally doesn’t interfere in BCB’s daily activities. In addition, NSC morally plays an active role in BCB’s positive activities. NSC remains united with ICC’s ideology. NSC is considering forming a sub-committee to make necessary reforms to the BCB’s existing constitution.”
It said, “NSC is requesting to form a sub-committee after analyzing overall issues as well as to inform NSC after forming the sub-committee. Noteworthy, an inclusion of NSC member in the sub-committee will play a positive role.”
In both the letters, the council insisted that the issue is very important.
The cricket board will hold a meeting of directors on 30 October to discuss the matter.
