Mohammad Azim Bakhsh, vice-president and chairman of coordination committee at Anjuman Mufidul Islam, on Tuesday said he did not misuse his post for his personal gain and all allegations brought against him are false.

He said this in a press conference held at Anjuman Mufidul Islam (AMI) bhaban at Kakrail in the capital.

Recently, a group of employees of the philanthropic organisation staged a demonstration and brought allegations against Azim that he was corrupt and autocratic – following an order to transfer four employees outside Dhaka.

Refuting the allegations brought against him, Azim said, “They brought an allegation against me that I use the car of Anjuman Mufidul Islam for my personal use which is not correct. Anjuman has a policy of using its cars only for official purposes, especially during the inspection of any project or activity of the organisation. The car movement details are registered and there are cells for monitoring whether the vehicles are being used properly or not”

He also said that Maula Buksh Sardar Charitable Eye Hospital is a four-decade long family philanthropic institution and it has no connection with Anjuman Mufidul Islam.

Azim said, “Disinformation was spread that our ambulances and mortuary vans were not in operation during the anti-discrimination student movement, but it is not true. During the time, we transported patients and dead bodies. There is a transport committee to oversee the operation and use of vehicles. I have no personal connection with it.”

Relief goods of Anjuman are distributed through the members of its management committee among the needy in their respective areas. In that case, I distribute the relief allocated for my area through my institution. It is not unethical.

Anjuman Mufidul Islam was established in 1905 and since then it has been providing transportation of patients and dead bodies and burial services for unclaimed bodies.

There are 400 orphans and 1,700 poor students in nine orphanages in Dhaka, Narayanganj and Savar and four educational institutions. It also operates a polytechnic institute, providing regular allowances to destitute and aged men and women including freedom fighter allowance.
