Sarjis Alam and Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho have been appointed as general secretary and chief executive officer respectively of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation, which has been set up to support the victims and families of the victims of the uprising that felled the last government.

The decision followed a recent warning issued by Sarjis, one of the key leaders of the student-led anti-fascist movement, asking the interim government to either do their job properly in taking care of the protesters – or leave to the student protest leaders to get the job done.

The inclusion of Sarjis in the Foundation was decided at the second meeting of the foundation’s Executive Council held on Monday, according to the Chief Adviser's press wing.

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus presided over the meeting held at state guesthouse Jamuna, in his capacity as the foundation’s president.

With thousands injured and hundreds of lives lost, the foundation will focus on raising funds to provide immediate health care support to injured people, offer short-term financial support to victims’ families, preserve the memory of those who sacrificed their lives, and implement projects that will ensure long-term impact.

The Foundation is a non-political, voluntary and public welfare non-governmental organisation approved by the government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

It’s mission is to provide immediate healthcare, financial relief, and long-term support to the families of martyrs and injured, while preserving the legacy of the July revolution for future generations through education, advocacy, and sustainable initiatives.
