Unidentified miscreants launched an indiscriminate shooting spree at a Durga Puja celebration site in India’s Bihar state early Sunday, leaving four youths, including two Durga Puja committee members, injured.
The incident took place at Maula Bagh locality under Nawada police station of Arrah, the district headquarters town of Bhojpur district, Bihar.
Those injured in the firing were identified as Sunil Kumar Yadav, 26, Arman Ansari, 19, Roshan Kumar, 25, and Sipahi Kumar, who is in his early twenties.
All the injured were admitted to a private hospital situated at Babu Bazar locality of Arrah.
The unidentified shooters came on two motorcycles, opened fire on the puja celebration site and fled, according to the witnesses. The cops have recovered two bullet casings from the spot.
The incident has sparked fears among the locals and massive security concerns in the area during the festive season.
Superintendent Raj, of Bhojpur district police station, told the media, "On the face of it, it seems that an old mutual dispute with some puja committee members is the reason behind the incident. The culprits have been identified, and intensive raids are ongoing to nab the miscreants responsible for the incident. The injured persons are at present stable and out of danger."
One of the seriously injured puja committee members, named Sunil Kumar Yadav, said, "I wonder where two bike-borne miscreants could appear suddenly! We were sitting on the chairs placed in front of our puja pandal when they started indiscriminate firing. I received a bullet injury in my stomach and instantly fell to the ground. I didn't see where they fled."
