Two teams of the Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday conducted raids at different kitchen markets in the capital Dhaka in a bid to keep the prices of daily essentials under control.

The market monitoring teams also fined several businesses Tk12,500 for irregularities, including price hikes and non-compliance with the relevant rules, reports a press release.

The two teams carried out market monitoring activities at Mohammadpur Krishi Market and Fakirapul Kitchen Market and monitored the prices of essential items, including rice, lentils, eggs, vegetables and chicken.

During the raid at Mohammadpur Krishi Market, the team led by Jannatul Ferdous, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, checked the price lists displayed by the shop owners and examined their purchase and sales receipts.

Besides, during the raid at Fakirapul Kitchen Market, the team led by Amit Deb Nath, senior assistant secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, inspected the purchase and selling prices of essential items such as eggs, onions, green chilies, chicken, and rice.

The monitoring team also revealed a slight decrease in the prices of eggs and onions and emphasised the need to display updated price lists for chicken, rice, potatoes, onions, and other essential goods.
