The Bangladesh High Commission in Ottawa observed World Children’s Day and Children’s Rights Week 2024 with a vibrant celebration held at its premises on 7 October.

The event, presided over by Nahida Sobhan, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Canada, brought together members of the Bangladeshi-Canadian community, including children and their families, to emphasize the importance of children’s rights, creativity, and their role in shaping the future, a press release said.

As part of the celebrations, an art competition was organized to engage young minds and showcase their talents. The competition was divided into two categories based on age: children aged 5-10 were tasked with creating artwork on the theme "My Motherland," while those aged 11-15 focused on the theme "Future World." Participants from various provinces across Canada took part, displaying an impressive array of creativity and artistic talent.

High Commissioner Nahida Sobhan announced the winners of the competition and congratulated all the participants for their exceptional efforts. She expressed her admiration for the children’s contributions, stating, “This day belongs to you. It is a celebration of your creativity, your rights, and your potential. You are the heart of our community, and it is our responsibility to ensure your voices are heard and your talents are nurtured.”

Following the announcement of the winners, the High Commissioner led a cake-cutting ceremony with the participating children, which symbolized the spirit of joy and togetherness that defined the event.

The gathering concluded with a message of hope and unity, reaffirming the High Commission’s commitment to promoting the rights and well-being of children, both in Canada and Bangladesh.
