All cases against BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman will be addressed through the legal process, as he respects the law of the country, said the party’s Legal Affairs Secretary Barrister Kayser Kamal.
“Tarique Rahman is the most popular leader in the country. He will return home at the appropriate time,” he stated while speaking to journalists at the Supreme Court Bar Association building in the capital on Sunday.
In response to a question, he mentioned that during a meeting between a BNP delegation and chief adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Saturday, the delegation called for action against the High Court judges accused of politicisation.
“We, as lawyers, support this demand. The judiciary must not serve the political agenda of any party. We hope the authorities will take the necessary action against judges who have violated the Code of Conduct,” said Kayser Kamal, who also serves as legal counsel for Tarique Rahman.
Tarique Rahman has been residing in London since having travelled there for medical treatment in September 2008. He faces several charges in cases filed during the 1/11 political changeover and the authoritarian Awami League regime.
The BNP leaders maintain that all the cases filed against Tarique Rahman are false, fabricated, and politically motivated.
A BNP delegation, led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, met with Prof Yunus on Saturday afternoon, urging him to take steps to facilitate the return of Tarique Rahman, according to sources present at the meeting.
