The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has directed banks to freeze all accounts of former lawmaker and Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, and his wife Fouzia Alam.

Banks were also asked to suspend transactions of accounts in their names for a period of 30 days.

The BFIU also instructed to freeze accounts of the companies owned by them for the same period.

Besides, the anti-money laundering agency ordered that their locker facilities (if they have any) be suspended for the same duration.

The intelligence unit also sought an update on the accounts.

In another letter, the BFIU asked banks to provide account details of journalist Munni Saha.

The anti-money laundering agency also ordered banks and non-bank financial institutions to submit information on savings, current, fixed deposit receipts, and deposit plus scheme accounts held in her name, organisations, or companies linked to her within the next five business days. The five-day deadline ends Monday.
