The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, and the Gono Odhikar Parishad have recommended extending the maximum age limit to 35 for entering the public service.

Demonstrators, who have been taking to the streets to realise the demand, submitted a recommendation letter signed by three top leaders of the parties to Md Rezaul Maksud Zahedi, additional secretary of the public administration ministry, during a meeting at the secretariat on Thursday.

Shariful Hasan, convener of the “35-Prottashi Shikkharthi Samanyay Parishad,” a platform dedicated to increasing the age limit,  Mohammad Russel, member secretary, and Sohel Amin, joint convener of the platform, held the meeting with the government official and discussed their logical stance on the issue.

Shariful told the media that they earlier met BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, and Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur who signed a recommendation letter in favour of raising the age limit to 35 for the government job entry.

During the meeting, he said, the recommendation letter was submitted to the additional secretary.

Amid jobseekers' demonstrations demanding fixing the age limit for entering public service at 35 years, the interim government on Monday formed a committee to review the issue.

The committee was asked to place its recommendations within the next seven days.
