Miscreants hacked two women banking officials and two Ansar members as they snatched nearly Tk8 lakh from the victims near a Sonali Bank branch in Gazipur town on Sunday.

They were admitted to Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital.

Shahiduzzaman, assistant general manager of Sonali Bank’s court building area branch in Gazipur town, told reporters that the victims were transferring bank funds to the court building branch on an auto-rickshaw.

Some 10-12 youths, riding on 3-4 motorbikes, intercepted the bankers and Ansar members near the Gazipur stadium to snatch Tk7.84 lakh. When the Ansar members tried to resist, the miscreants fired blank shots and hacked the Sonali Bank team indiscriminately.

Afterwards, locals rushed the injured to hospital.

Gazipur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Rahedul Islam said senior police officers visited the spot of the crime shortly after the incident. Police are treating the criminal attack seriously, and legal procedures are being taken in this regard, he added.
